Children learning through play

Our Philosophy

Learning through play

At VEP, play is central to how young children learn. Through play, children test ideas, build language, practise social skills, develop confidence and begin to understand the world around them.

In the early years, curiosity is a powerful driver of development. Our role is to create a safe, stimulating environment in which children can explore, ask questions, take small risks and experience the satisfaction of discovery.

A child-centred ethos

Children learn best when they feel safe, seen and understood. We treat each child as an individual, with their own temperament, strengths, pace of development and way of learning. Our aim is to build confidence, independence and a lasting enjoyment of learning.

Our Vision

Our vision is to offer early-years education in a safe, happy, caring and stimulating environment. We want children to grow as capable learners, confident individuals and thoughtful members of a wider community.

Our educators use a flexible, child-centred approach. They combine different educational methods and learning styles to create a curriculum that suits the age, needs and interests of each group while supporting each child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.

Seven areas of learning and development

Indoor and outdoor activities support development across seven areas: personal, social and emotional development; speech, language and communication; physical development; numeracy; literacy; expressive arts and design; and understanding of the world.

Monthly topics give children a shared focus for stories, discussion, creative work, movement, early numeracy, early literacy and exploration. We balance adult-led activities with self-directed play and first-hand experiences, because both are essential for young children's development.
